In many villages of Tamil Nadu in South India people are celebrating this great god, Karuppaswamy, as Guardian God throughout their life. Usually the idols of this god is situated at the entrance of every Hindu temple as security of other gods present in the temples. In legend it is told that Karuppaswamy is the other incarnation of Lord Shiva and He should be given the same importance as given to Lord Shiva. Many hundreds of boothas are coming under the administration of Lord Karuppaswamy and Boothas are also adorned by his devotees. In every Karuppaswamy temple where Karuppaswamy is the prime God we can see gaint bootha statues standing on both sides of the temple. Lord Karuppaswamy has different images such as Muthu Karuppana Swamy, Punugu Karuppana Swamy and Sangili Karuppana Swamy.

Lord Karuppaswamy is considered to be the guardian god of the village where his temple is situated. The villagers believe that god Karuppaswamy scares away evil spirits and protect villagers against evil diseases and ill fortunes but also punishing erring persons. The village guardian gods other than Karuppaswamy are Lord Ayyanar and Lord Madurai Veeran. The statues of these dieties are found at the boundaries of villages. It will be common to find the statue of Lord Karuppaswamy lying on a horse statue. It is also believed that guardian gods like Lord Karuppaswamy will ride around villages on his horse to protect people and faithful devotees. He has a peculiar image by having a big crown made of cloth, big moustache and bright eyes. He is always equipped with a spear and machete to protect His devotees from evil things.

Even today the people are making the sacrifice of animals by killing them infront of his temple. One thing is clear that God never likes the killing of any animal particularly in His province by his name. God loves all living beings equally and He never tells any body to make sacrifice of any other living being by killing them mercilessly. People from village side have to understand this great truth and try to avoid this traditional misdeed. Some intelligent people are making the sacrifice by squeezing lemon fruit and red colored gumgum powder. When we compare it with merciless killing of living beings it can be certainly a likable belief.

On the day of Maha Shivarathri, a major Hindu festival, the various groups of Hindu people will celebrate and pray their prime God including Lord Karuppaswamy. This festival comes on every new moon day of February last week or March first week of every year.

hi there..i am in the process of building a Lord Karuppar temple in Singapore.

here is my two cents on sacrifice.God never asked for sacrifice, correct. When you give him chicken, goat, etc, etc what you are in fact giving is offering God the stuff that we like most in a symbolic meaning of i offer in gratitude, the things that i most fancy and like and offer them to you.

The first three karuppar is the form of lord vishnus avatar his names sangili karuppar , chinna karuppar , and periya karuppar. Other 18 avatars are form of lord shiva avatar. It is not simple to build a karuppanasamy temple.lord karuppar dont asks to sacrifice the goat its only for the protect the karuppar temple its for angles takes the blood of goats. Not for karuppar this is true . When u built karuppar temple the most important is to u must keep the peedakal inside the peedakal the andaram to keep the god more power ful .

THERE ARE SOME BEINGS CREATED ON THE EARTH TO EAT, IF SOMEONE DONE LIKE ANIMAL SACRIFICE THATS FINE BUT LETS NOT CHANGE THE PROCEDURE...IT SOMEONE WANTS TO CHANGE THE PROCEDURE THEN HE/SHE SHOULD BE COMPLETELY A VEGETERIAN....IF PEOPLE PRAY OF SOUMYA ROOPA MUNISHWARAR OR KARUPPU SWAMY THEY OFFER CHUKKA ROTTI AND MILK RICE AND IF IT IS UGRA ROOPA WITH SIGAR LIQUUOR AND ANIMAL SACRIFICE.. NOW ONE HAS TO DECIDED WHAT KIND OF POOJAI HE/SHE IS INTERESTED/FOLLOW..VERY SIMPLE. CHANGING THE PROCEDURE OF ANY POOJAI IS A DAIVA KUTRAM OR NEECHA POOJAI
